Evaluating competition for forage plants between honey bees and wild bees in Denmark

چکیده
A recurrent concern in nature conservation is the potential competition for forage plants between wild bees and managed honey bees. Specifically, that highly sophisticated system of recruitment large perennial colonies quickly exhaust resources leading to local extirpation However, different species show preferences plants. We here summarize known bee at national scale Denmark. Our focus on floral shared by bees, with an emphasis both threatened foraging specialist species. Across all 292 from Denmark, a total 410 plant genera were recorded as These included 294 visited Honey share 176 Comparing pairwise niche overlap individual species, no significant relationship was found their specialization or status. Network analysis bee-plant interactions placed aside most other specifically module containing had fewer links any modules, while remaining modules more inter-connected. Despite lack predictive overlap, data could be summarized. Consequently, we have identified set operational parameters that, based high (>70%) unfavorable status (Vulnerable+Endangered+Critically Endangered), can guide actions land management decisions proximity suspected populations these

Wild bees enhance honey bees' pollination of hybrid sunflower.
Pollinators are required for producing 15-30% of the human food supply, and farmers rely on managed honey bees throughout the world to provide these services. Yet honey bees are not always the most efficient pollinators of all crops and are declining in various parts of the world. Crop pollination shortages are becoming increasingly common. We found that behavioral interactions between wild and...
متن کاملEuropean foulbrood in honey bees.
European foulbrood (EFB) is a severe bacterial brood disease caused by the Gram-positive bacterium Melissocccus plutonius. The disease has a worldwide distribution and is an increasing problem in some areas. Although the causative agent of EFB was described almost a century ago, many basic aspects of its pathogenesis are still unknown. This review presents both historical results and recent mol...

The International Symposium on Varroa Disease was organized by the Central Board of Apiculture of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry of the Bulgarian People’s Republic following the initiative of the International Federation of Beekeepers’ Associations – APIMONDIA. It was attended by approximately 30 apiculturists and beekeepers of Bulgaria, Romania, USSR, and Yugoslavia. In Bulgaria...
متن کاملCocaine Tolerance in Honey Bees
Increasingly invertebrates are being used to investigate the molecular and cellular effects of drugs of abuse to explore basic mechanisms of addiction. However, in mammals the principle factors contributing to addiction are long-term adaptive responses to repeated drug use. Here we examined whether adaptive responses to cocaine are also seen in invertebrates using the honey bee model system. Re...
متن کاملTaste Perception in Honey Bees
Taste is crucial for honeybees for choosing profitable food sources, resins, water sources, and for nestmate recognition. Peripheral taste detection occurs within cuticular hairs, the chaetic and basiconic sensilla, which host gustatory receptor cells and, usually a mechanoreceptor cell. Gustatory sensilla are mostly located on the distal segment of the antennae, on the mouthparts, and on the t...
